In the first installment of this series, I introduced Henry Laurence Gantt, a little remembered character from the early twentieth century’s efficiency movement. I explained how Gantt parted ways with his much better known mentor, Frederick Winslow Taylor—The Father of Scientific Management, who preached a One Best Way approach. Gantt’s experience had shown that there were a variety of ways to improve operations, and that each shop’s improvements were necessarily unique and incomplete. Gantt labeled as Stunt Peddlers the consultants who rode the efficiency movement’s popularity by teaching One
Best Way tricks of the trade. He championed more sensible and effective
approaches.
Somebody asked me an interesting question: what does a Product Owner do during the Sprint? But before answering this question, let’s go one step back and see what the PO does for the release backlog.
Let’s start by saying that the PO has changing roles and responsibilities during the project. For instance, during the very inception of the project, the PO would be responsible for gathering the initial set of requirements–provided by the client–and together with the team, create an initial set of user stories.
Any BI implementation requires a sound Data Model and Reports that deliver value for it to be successful. Most BI tools in the market today are based on a Data Model that is perfectly modeled after any one of the various theoretical approaches. The need to enforce a “one truth” approach is prevalent. 3NF modeling is almost a gospel or depending on the tool , Star design is preferred.

Either you have been missing something, or nothing has really been going on
‘As we know, there are known knowns; There are things we know we know
We also know there are known unknowns: That is to say we know there are some things we do not know
But there are also unknown unknowns: The ones we don't know we don't know’
Technology continues to mature to the extent where companies regardless of size may be able to utilize leading edge yet stable solutions and infrastructure. Storage, network, and computing systems have all increased in performance consistent with Moore’s Law. Software solutions are now available to tie all these components together into a blended compute and storage infrastructure. It is called “Cloud Computing” leading this shift to an outsourced IT, possibly across the enterprise.
Transportation in manufacturing corresponds to hand-offs in software development. Anytime you hand a deliverable off to a different party, there is some loss in the transfer of knowledge.
There are many such examples of hand-offs in software development:
Sometimes in the midst of a project, you feel like you’re trying to “herd cats” to get everyone working together and moving in the same direction. If you’ve ever had that experience, you’re not alone.
